Laurie Sandell

I met up with Michael Kaminer today; he’s the co-creator of Graphic Details: Jewish Womens’ Autobiographical Comics. It’s a traveling art show featuring original art by a variety of Jewish artists (me among them!) Here he is, looking through my highly disturbing childhood cartoons, a few of which will be featured in the show, alongside original art from my book. The show will originate in San Francisco, go through Toronto and hopefully end up in London. Naturally, I will be campaigning to go to the opening in London, where half my friends live. Because I didn’t start out as a cartoonist, I’ve never been asked to participate in an art show before, so I must say, I’m pretty thrilled this is happening. Don’t be surprised if I start wearing black and move to a loft on the Bowery and re-name Violet “Melpomene.”
